Tom Buchanan is President & Chief Executive Officer of Provident Energy Trust and also a member of the Board of Directors. In 1993, Mr. Buchanan established Founders Energy, a junior independent oil and gas company that was converted into Provident Energy Trust in 2001. At Founders, Mr. Buchanan held the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, as well as President and Chief Executive Officer.

Tom Buchanan is a Director of Athabasca Oil Sands Corp., Emera Inc., and Hawk Exploration Ltd. He is also the Chairman of the Board for Renfrew Educational Services, a not-for-profit educational organization for children with special needs and the Edge School for Athletes, an educational facility that allows young people to pursue academic excellence while striving to reach their full academic potential. He has also coached minor hockey for the Crowchild Hockey Association.

Born in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Mr. Buchanan grew up in Calgary. He received his bachelor of commerce from the University of Calgary and later became a chartered accountant. Tom Buchanan and his family reside in Calgary, Alberta.
