The strength of the West Central region lies in liquids-rich, long-life natural gas reserves and high-quality light crude oil. This region consists of two key areas – Sundre and Whitecourt – and is managed from Provident’s field office at Olds. Provident has farmed out a number of higher-risk exploration projects in the Sundre area while the Trust proceeds to optimize facilities in the area and to drill low-risk wells. At Whitecourt, key gas fields operated by Provident include Paddle River, Wildwood and Heldar. Based on a substantial inventory of 3-D seismic, Provident has focused on farming out high-risk projects.
