Lloydminister, located midway between
Edmonton and Saskatoon, is regarded as the heavy oil
capital of the world. With production from the Cretaceous
Sparky formation, it contributes an abundance of low-risk
development drilling opportunities to the Trust. Heavy
oil exploration and development has been underway in
the area since 1946 and in 1992, a $1.6 billion plant
was built to upgrade crude oil.
The area is managed from Provident’s Lloydminster
office.
